broadleaf arrowhead, Sagittaria latifolia, a healthy, mature plant 6″ pot.
these plants are native across much of the North American continent and provided a food source to indigenous peoples. the tubers – duck potatoes – are edible raw (though bitter) and can be cooked pretty much anyway a potato can be.
wapato, katniss, arrowhead… an aesthetically pleasing emergent aquatic plant with many names. even if you don’t plan on eating the roots, broadleaf arrowhead is a good inclusion for its looks and for the fact that it’s native.
three petaled flowers appear over the attractive, distinctive foliage throughout the warm season.
arrowhead plants act as anatural water filter as they absorb nutrients, stabilize banks and beds with their roots, and provide shelter and food for wildlife.
keep in mind this is an emergent aquatic plant.
the preferred conditions are roots submerged in muck, and foliage above the water line. arrowleaf can possibly also be grown in fresh water aquariums as well as outside in natural and artificial ponds.
shipping
plants ship on Mondays and Tuesdays, priority mail, packaged as gently as possible.
live plants are affected by the shipping process, but you can expect them to rebound quickly when given adequate care.
please do your part to help your new plant friend survive by promptly unpackaging and repotting, and maybe a gentle re-introduction to direct sunlight even for sun loving plants.
i am a permaculture nerd and do not spray any pesticides or use any chemical fertilizers. i grow almost everything in the ground or in my pond/bog in Florida zone 10. stock is moved to nursery pots for root development prior to sale.
it’s not shop policy to accept returns on plants/seeds/cuttings. plants depart healthy and well-packed, and the weather and the postal service are variables beyond ones control. however, if a customer is unhappy with a purchase, i will work with them to resolve the issue.
plants ship only to addresses in the continental US, excluding California and Arizona.
